A private full-day tour of Hvar with a local guide covers the island's natural beauty, history and hidden corners: Napoleon's Fortress 250 meters above town, the abandoned village of Malo Grablje with its preserved 1894 olive mill, Stari Grad's UNESCO streets and castle, the ancient Stari Grad Plain, and the hilltop village of Humac. The day ends with a Dalmatian meal, local wine and olive oil at a family-run konoba. Hotel or port pickup and drop-off are included. Entrance fees to sites are paid on arrival.

The experience

Pickup happens from your hotel, apartment or port in Hvar Town, then a short drive takes you up to Napoleon's Fortress, perched 250 meters above sea level. The views from there sweep across Hvar Town, the Pakleni Islands and the Adriatic: the kind of vantage point that frames everything you'll see for the rest of the day. From there the route turns inland, away from the coast, onto quiet roads that pass through lavender fields and vineyards between stone villages.

Velo Grablje was the center of European lavender production in the 16th century. Now it's a working village where you can see how that heritage shaped the landscape. Next is Malo Grablje, abandoned in the 1960s and left as it was: roofless stone houses, empty courtyards, and a preserved olive mill from 1894 still standing. The guide walks you through what daily life looked like before people moved away. Then comes Stari Grad, one of Croatia's oldest towns and a UNESCO site, where you have time to explore the stone streets on foot, visit Tvrdalj Castle and linger by the waterfront or in local shops. The route continues through the Stari Grad Plain, a UNESCO-listed agricultural landscape that has been farmed in the same way since ancient Greek times: the fields, dry-stone walls and olive groves follow the original layout.

Humac sits high above the island, a 15th-century stone village with views that reach across vineyards, forests and down to the sea. The day closes at a family-run konoba with a slow-cooked Dalmatian meal, local wine and olive oil, then your guide drives you back to your starting point. The whole tour runs six to seven hours and operates as a private group: no strangers on the van, no fixed itinerary you have to match to someone else's pace.
