The experience
The route itself is straightforward, one of Hvar's most accessible hikes, but what makes it worth the morning is what you learn along the way. A local guide walks you through the lavender fields and explains how these herbs were cultivated, used in traditional medicine, and distilled on the island. The landscape opens up to show you how the land shaped the people who lived here, and the stops at Velo Grablje and Malo Grablje let you see that history directly: villages that have barely changed in fifty years, with the same stone houses and the same rhythm of life the islanders kept for generations.
Velo Grablje comes first, where you can see traditional Dalmatian architecture and get a sense of how people actually lived on Hvar a century ago. Then you move on to Malo Grablje, the more remote of the two, where the pace slows even further. This is where you stop for food: a meal at a konoba, a family-run restaurant serving local wine and the kind of cooking that has not changed much either. Depending on which option you choose at checkout, you can add a swim at Mala Milna, or extend the hike all the way down to the coast at Milna before heading back to Hvar town.
Transportation to the trailhead and back is included, so you do not need to arrange a car or figure out the local buses. Wear comfortable walking shoes (sandals will not work on the terrain), bring water and sunscreen (the sun is strong on the island), and if you are swimming, pack a suit. The whole outing runs between four and six hours depending on which route you pick.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and French.
What is Malo Grablje like when I get there?
Malo Grablje is a preserved traditional village where time has essentially stopped for more than fifty years. You walk through stone houses and narrow lanes, rest in the quiet, and eat at a local konoba where the food and wine reflect how people on Hvar have cooked for generations. It is the kind of place where you can actually picture what island life looked like before tourism.
Do I need to be fit to do this hike?
The route is one of Hvar's easiest hikes and is suitable for all fitness levels. It is not a strenuous climb. The appeal is the landscape, the villages, and what you learn about the herbs and history along the way, not the physical challenge.
What is included in the tour, and what costs extra?
Every option includes the local guide, transportation to and from the trailhead, accident insurance, and entry to the villages. The base tour comes with the hike and a meal at the konoba. You can add a swim and lunch, or book the extended hike to Milna instead, depending on which option you choose when you book.
What should I bring on the hike?
Bring comfortable walking shoes (avoid sandals), bottled water, sunscreen, and a hat or cap because the sun is very strong. If you choose the swimming option, pack a bathing suit as well.
How long does the tour take?
The tour runs between four and six hours depending on which option you choose. The base tour and the tour with lunch and swimming fall on the shorter end. The extended hike to Milna takes longer.
