The experience

The speedboat leaves Hvar Town and heads across the Adriatic to the Blue Cave first: a sea cave on the island of Biševo where sunlight enters through a natural opening in the roof, reflects off the seabed and fills the space with a hypnotizing silver-blue light. You swim inside to see it. From there the boat moves to the Green Cave on Ravnik, formed by wave erosion with two entrances and an opening at the top. Light reflecting off the sea bottom paints the cave walls green. Both are the kind of place you cannot reach without a boat, and both sit on the itinerary before the day gets crowded.

Stiniva Beach on Vis Island is next: a secluded turquoise cove with pebbly shores and cliffs rising around it, rated Europe's Best Beach in 2019. You swim here and have time to explore the narrow inlet. Then comes Budikovac Island, where the lagoon shifts between shades of turquoise as the sun moves. The water is clear enough for underwater photography. The Pakleni Islands close the day: a chain of wooded isles immediately in front of Hvar Town with hidden beaches and deserted lagoons like Palmižana and Mlini. Snorkeling gear is included at every stop, and the guide is with you the whole time.

Seven hours on the water means an early start and a full day. The speedboat is the transport and the access, without it, these caves and islands stay out of reach. Bring a towel and sunscreen. Water is provided.
