The Experience

Hands gripping the edge of the boat, I watched our skipper—Nikola, sunburned nose and all—toss a bottle of water my way as we pulled away from Hvar’s harbor. The engine hummed under us, and I could taste the salt spray before we even reached Budikovac Island.
