The experience
The drive to Rincón de la Vieja takes 1 hour and 45 minutes from your resort. Once you arrive at the adventure center, you'll find lockers, bathrooms and changing rooms. The guide walks through safety before you step onto the first of nine cables strung across ten platforms. If ziplining doesn't appeal, the alternative is eight hanging bridges of different lengths that let you move through the canopy on foot and watch for wildlife at the volcano's base.
After the cables or bridges, a quarter-mile waterslide drops you over the forest to cool off. Lunch is a buffet you eat before saddling up for horseback riding through the middle of the forest, where the landscape opens up around you. A short walk leads to a waterfall. From there you head to the Eco Spa, where you'll soak in a natural sauna, exfoliate with volcanic mud and float in five pools fed by natural hot spring water. The tractor ride back marks the end of the day before the drive home.
The guide speaks English and Spanish. Hydration and snacks come throughout the day, plus coffee. Pickup and drop-off are included, so you don't arrange transport yourself.
