The Experience

The first zip line catches you off guard—you step off the platform expecting a slow glide, and instead the harness pulls you out over the canopy at speed, the rainforest dropping away beneath your feet. It's not gentle. The line stretches up to 150 meters across the treetops, and your guide is already on the next platform, waiting. That's when you realize this isn't a single activity bolted onto a tour; it's the first piece of something bigger, and you're committed to all of it now.

After the zip lines come down, you hike deeper into the forest to find a natural waterslide—an actual rock formation worn smooth by water, angled into a pool so clear you can see the bottom before you hit it. Your guide points out where the water temperature changes as you climb, and then you're sliding, and then you're under, and the shock of it is real. The cultural part happens after: a working trapiche, a traditional sugar mill where cane gets crushed and boiled down into panela and other sweets the way it's been done in Guanacaste for generations. You taste the coffee there too, the kind that doesn't travel well, so you only get it if you show up. The ceramics are displayed in the same space—local pieces, each one different, the kind of thing you'd normally pass in a market without stopping.

The hot springs come last, which is the point.
