The experience

You start with a blind tasting of two coffees, learning to identify what you perceive in the cup: the aromas, sweetness, acidity and body of each one. A host walks you through how to recognize and name what you taste, so by the time you move to the four-method tasting, you know what to listen for in your own palate.

Then you taste four varieties of Colombian coffee, each prepared a different way: espresso machine, Japanese siphon, Chemex, V60, AeroPress or French press. The point is not just to drink them: you see how the same coffee changes depending on how it is brewed, and you discover which preparation brings out the flavors you prefer. A house-made cookie accompanies the tasting. Leandro, the co-founder and third-generation coffee producer from Pitalito, Huila, or one of the baristas he has trained, shares the work and stories behind the coffees throughout the 90 minutes.

You leave with four essential steps to brew better coffee at home and three tips for buying it with confidence. If you want, the café sends you a file with photos from the experience.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (14 to 17 years). Children under 14 can't be included in the booking.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What does a blind tasting mean, and why start there?

A blind tasting means you taste the coffee without knowing which variety or origin it is, so you focus on what you actually perceive (the aromas, sweetness and texture) rather than what you expect to taste. Starting blind trains your palate before you learn the story behind each coffee.

Which brewing methods do you get to taste?

The four methods rotate among espresso machine, Japanese siphon, Chemex, V60, AeroPress and French press, so the exact lineup depends on the day. Each one extracts the coffee differently, which is why the same bean tastes noticeably different in each cup.

Is this experience suitable for someone who doesn't usually drink coffee?

Yes. The tasting is designed to help you learn what you like, and the blind tasting especially works well if you have no preconceptions. Children from age 14 are welcome, and the host will guide you through recognizing flavors whether or not you drink coffee regularly at home.

What is included in the 90 minutes?

All four coffees, four different brewing methods, a handmade house cookie, and instruction from a trained barista on how to brew better coffee and buy it with confidence. The experience takes place at DV Café Especial in La Candelaria, Bogotá's historic neighborhood.
