The Experience

The coffee you drink every morning has traveled through a dozen steps before it reaches your cup, and most of it happens in someone else's hands. This tour puts those steps in yours. Forty minutes from Medellín, at the Joneal estate in Angelópolis, you work through the entire process alongside the farmers who tend the plants: pulping the fruit, fermenting the beans, drying them, threshing off the dried skin, roasting them to the color you choose, and finally grinding and brewing a cup you made yourself. You use the plantation's own machines and wear the gear the harvesters wear. The guide walks you through each stage and explains what happens at every point.

The three-hour experience is built around doing, not watching. You handle the coffee at each stage, see how the color and texture change, and taste the difference between roasting methods. The farmers and their relatives lead the tour and answer questions about how they grow and process coffee for export. Pickup from any point in Medellín is included, and the guide speaks English or Spanish.
