The experience

Your guide meets you at your Suzhou hotel or the train station and drives you through the city in a private air-conditioned vehicle, stopping wherever your interests lead. The Lingering Garden is the first major stop: a classical Chinese garden where water, stone, plants and pavilions are arranged so tightly that every few steps opens a new view. You walk through it at your own pace, with your guide pointing out the design choices that make it work. Pingjiang Road comes next, a narrow street lined with traditional shophouses where you walk among locals buying lunch and browsing small stalls. The tour also takes you to Hanshan Temple, an active Buddhist temple where you can see the architecture and learn about its place in Suzhou's spiritual life, and to Pan Gate, where the ancient city wall still stands.
