Cook two Chilean dishes in a local's home kitchen, then eat what you made

A hands-on Chilean cooking class at Cristian's apartment in El Golf, Santiago, where you learn to make two traditional dishes from family recipes and eat them with wine pairings. Choose between a morning option that includes a guided tour of Santiago's three main markets (Vega Chica, Mercado Central, and Vega Grande) followed by lunch, or an evening class with dinner. Hotel pickup and drop-off from central Santiago is included, and the guide speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese.

The experience

Cristian teaches from his apartment in El Golf using family recipes he learned growing up in Chile and perfected while living abroad. You'll start with oysters and a welcome drink, then move into the kitchen to cook two dishes from scratch: if you pick the morning option with the market tour, you'll make charquicán (a local aboriginal dish) and cardamom ceviche. The evening class swaps charquicán for pastel de choclo, a Chilean beef and corn pie. The class runs about three hours, and you eat the meal you helped prepare with Carmenere wine, Sauvignon Blanc or pisco sour, plus Camembert cheese with papaya chutney and cheesecake for dessert.

The market tour option starts with hotel pickup at 10am and takes you through Vega Chica (the meat market), Mercado Central (fish), and Vega Grande, the largest fresh market in Latin America. You'll shop for ingredients there, then head to Cristian's apartment to cook. The evening class skips the market and starts with a 6pm pickup, running until 9pm. Both options include hotel pickup and drop-off from central Santiago. If you're staying outside the center, you can meet Cristian directly at his apartment instead.

The menu shifts with the season, so let Cristian know about any allergies, dietary restrictions or cooking preferences when you book. Wine pairings are included in both options, and the class is private to your group.

Is this one for you?The market tour option gives you the full Santiago market experience and the ingredients story behind the dishes. Pick the evening class if you want to cook and eat without the morning market visit. Both run long enough to learn the techniques without feeling rushed, and Cristian adjusts the menu for any allergies or dietary needs you mention at booking.
