The experience
What makes Kampot different from other Cambodian towns is what grows and is harvested here: pepper, salt, and the seafood that arrives daily at Kep's market. This tour threads through all three. You'll spend roughly two hours at a pepper farm (either La Plantation, the region's most famous, or a smaller local operation like Botree Farm depending on group agreement), where you taste pepper products prepared on-site and have time to wander the grounds, sit in the café, or simply rest. The farm visit includes a self-guided walk or an optional guided tour with tasting. La Plantation charges a small entrance fee (a voucher you can spend on products there).
From the farm, the route moves to the salt fields, where ocean water is pumped into pans and left to evaporate, leaving salt that workers rake into piles by hand: a seasonal stop that shows how the harvest happens. A short drive brings you to a large man-made lake built during the Khmer Rouge era, set outside town on a dirt road with few people around. Then comes the final stop: Kep, a seaside town where the crab market sits by the water. You can buy fresh crab or other seafood to eat there, or simply walk the market and relax on the beach before the tuk-tuk takes you back to Kampot.
A local guide in English travels with the group throughout, and the tour includes water and transport. Timing can shift depending on how many people are on the tour and how long the group spends at each stop, so there's built-in flexibility: some travelers use the waiting time to rest or explore on their own.

Is this one for you?The 6- to 7-hour commitment leaves your morning or evening free, so you can pair this with a separate activity in Kampot or a beach day elsewhere on the coast. The shared tuk-tuk pace means timing shifts with the group, so book this if you're flexible about when you eat or swim at Kep, rather than if you need a locked schedule.

Top questions
How much time do I actually spend at the pepper farm?
About two hours total at the farm you visit. That includes a self-guided walk (roughly 15 minutes or more) and free tastings of pepper products. If you choose the optional guided tour at La Plantation, the voucher you receive covers part of the cost. The rest of the time is yours to explore the grounds, use the café, or simply sit.
What is the salt field stop like, and when does it happen?
The salt fields are a seasonal stop where you watch workers rake salt that has evaporated from ocean water pumped into large pans. It takes about 15 minutes to drive there from the farm. The tour offers a 12pm departure option if you want to catch the salt fields at sunset.
Can I eat at Kep, or is food included?
Food is not included, but Kep's crab market sits right by the water and sells fresh crab and other seafood you can buy and eat there. You can also relax on the beach, swim, or just walk the market before heading back to Kampot.
What's included in the price, and what do I pay extra for?
The tour includes a local English-speaking guide, tuk-tuk transport, and bottled water. The entrance fee at La Plantation (around $2.50 for adults, $1.25 for children 6–15, free under 6) comes as a voucher you can use toward farm products or tours. Food, drinks, and any purchases at the market are at your own expense.
How long is the whole tour, and will I have free time?
The tour runs 6 to 7 hours total. You'll have free time to rest while the group is together at stops, and at Kep you have time to eat, swim, or explore before the return drive to Kampot.
