Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Kampot and Kep highlights

  • Visit Kampot salt fields
  • Explore cave and 7th century temple
  • Drive through Khmer countryside village
  • Relax at Secret Lake with drinks
  • Tour organic pepper plantation and tasting
  • Visit Kep Crab Market and surrounding sights

The Experience

The day starts in Kampot's salt fields, the largest in the region. You walk through the working area, touch the salt, and photograph the workers while your driver explains how sea salt is produced here. From there, a 30-minute cave exploration takes you underground to a 7th-century Hindu temple, followed by another 30 minutes driving through traditional Khmer villages in the countryside — the route itself is the point, passing through landscapes most visitors miss.

Secret Lake comes next, a massive reservoir built during the Khmer Rouge regime and set in hill country with views across the water. You stop at a local restaurant by the shore for a break; drinking water and coconut are provided. The pepper plantation tour runs about an hour and includes a tasting of organic peppers grown on-site, with time to sit down for coffee if you want to linger. After that, your driver takes you to Kep town and the crab market, where you can walk the stalls, explore the surrounding beach, and see the abandoned villas of the ghost town. Lunch is available in the market or at nearby restaurants, though it is not included in the tour price.

The whole route takes 7 to 8 hours. Your driver is your guide for the entire day, speaking English, and handles all navigation and entrance fees. Pickup and drop-off are included for any location within 3km of Kampot city centre; pickups beyond that distance carry an extra charge.
