Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Kampot and Kep highlights
- Visit Kampot salt fields
- See Secret Lake dam
- Tour La Plantation pepper farm
- Experience Kep Crab Market
- Explore Bokor National Park
The experience
The tour starts at Kampot's salt fields, where you watch the traditional salt-making process unfold across vast pans. Workers harvest salt by hand, and the crystallized patterns catch the light as they dry. From there you head to Brateak Krola Lake: a massive man-made dam built during the Khmer Rouge era that locals call the secret lake because few tourists find it. The scale of it is striking, and the drive there takes you through countryside most visitors skip.
La Plantation is a working pepper farm where you walk through the cultivation process and taste Kampot pepper, known for its quality and heat. The farm sits inland from the coast, so the route gives you a sense of the region beyond the beaches. Then you move to Kep, where the Crab Market sits right on the waterfront: fishermen unload their catch, auctions happen in real time, and you can eat fresh seafood there if you want to stop.
Bokor National Park closes out the day. You explore the park's trails and see the Yeay Mao Statue, a landmark carved into the hillside, then walk to Poporkvil Waterfall where water cascades into a pool below. The final stop is Sampov Pram Temple, perched on a ridge with views across the landscape. The tuk-tuk ride back to your hotel in Kampot city center wraps the day around 5 or 6 pm, depending on how long you linger at each stop.

Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 9 years). Under 4: they can't be included in the booking.
What exactly is the secret lake I keep hearing about in Kampot?
Brateak Krola Lake, called the secret lake locally, is a massive man-made dam built with forced labor during the Khmer Rouge era. It's one of the largest reservoirs in Cambodia and worth the journey because most tourists don't visit it. The scale and history make it a different kind of stop than the usual coastal attractions.
Can I actually eat at the Kep Crab Market, or is it just for looking?
The Kep Crab Market is a working market where fishermen sell fresh catch and auctions happen throughout the day. You can buy seafood and eat it there, or simply watch the activity and the unloading of boats. The choice is yours when you arrive.
How long does this tour actually take, and when does it end?
The tour runs 8 to 9 hours total, starting with hotel pickup in Kampot city center and ending with drop-off at your hotel. The exact timing depends on how long you spend at each stop, but you'll be back by late afternoon or early evening.
Is Bokor National Park hard to walk through, or can anyone do it?
Bokor National Park is suitable for all fitness levels. You walk to the waterfall and temple, but the trails are manageable and the pace is set by the group. There's no strenuous climbing required.
