The experience
The tour starts with a 15-minute transfer from your hotel near central Kampot, then heads straight to the salt fields: the largest in the region. You'll walk among the salt ponds and watch local workers harvest using traditional methods (available during the dry season), with time to photograph the process and ask questions about how the work changes through the year.
After a short tuk-tuk ride, you reach Phnom Kbal Romeas, a limestone cave known as "Rhinoceros Head Hill" and a Neolithic site dating back 5,000 to 3,000 years. Inside you'll see brick remains believed to be part of an early temple, still considered sacred by locals. The cave exploration takes 20 to 30 minutes. The drive then continues through the eastern Kampot countryside with a stop to learn about seasonal farming and local livelihoods before reaching Secret Lake, a man-made reservoir built during the Khmer Rouge era and now surrounded by hills and greenery: a quiet spot for a break and photos.
The final stop is La Plantation, one of Kampot's well-known organic pepper farms. You'll spend roughly 1 hour 45 minutes here: walk through the plantation, learn how the peppers are cultivated, and taste the farm's own pepper varieties. The return journey to Kampot takes about 40 minutes.
