The Experience

The boat was supposed to leave at 8:30, but the captain was still loading coolers at 8:45 — nobody seemed stressed about it, which is either a good sign or how things work in Nassau. Once we actually cast off, though, the pace picked up. First stop is Pearl Island, where the reef drops off close enough that you can see the fish without going deep; the water's clear enough that you don't need to be a strong swimmer to spot them. The snorkel gear is included and fits fine, though if you've got your own, bring it.

Green Cay is the thing people actually come for. You pull up and there they are — sea turtles, just hanging in the shallows like they own the place, which I guess they do. You can swim right up to them or stay on the boat if you'd rather watch; either way, it's the kind of moment that doesn't feel staged. After Green Cay, there's Gilligan's Island, which is more of a quick photo stop for anyone who remembers the show — the beach is small and the novelty wears fast, but it's there if you want it.

Rose Island is where the day actually settles. The beach is the real thing — white sand, water so clear you can see the bottom twenty feet out, and enough space that you're not packed in with other groups. Lunch is included, and it's not a rushed thing; you get actual time to swim, lie around, and let the morning snorkel fade into the background. The boat has a restroom, WiFi if you need it, and they keep cold water and soda flowing.
