The experience
The tour starts in the city center at Skanderbeg Square, where your guide walks you through the most important buildings and explains what they are. From there you move to the Et'hem Bey Mosque, a working mosque where the guide talks through its history, architectural details and what religion means in Albania today. The route then takes you past the Pyramid of Tirana (the structure built during the communist era), and the guide explains its symbolism, the regime that built it, and the political prisoners who suffered under it.
You'll pass through the wealthiest neighborhood in the city and hear how its status has shifted over time. The walk includes the largest stadium in Albania, a historical Ottoman bridge that still stands from that period, and the New Bazaar, where locals buy food and handmade souvenirs. The guide also shows you the largest mosque in the Balkan Peninsula and describes the layers of ruins and castle history beneath the modern streets. Throughout the three hours, you get tips on where to eat, how to move around the city, what customs matter, and which spots most visitors miss.
If you want to stop for a drink or food along the way, you pay for your own meal and the guide's as well. The route is walkable for all fitness levels and wheelchair accessible, with public transport nearby if you need it.
