The Experience
The walk starts at Skanderbeg Square, where the guide explains Tirana's foundation and the buildings that frame it. You'll see the Et'hem Bey Mosque, the oldest structure in the city and one of its defining symbols, along with the Clock Tower that once stood as the tallest building. The National Bank, National Museum, Hotel Tirana, and Palace of Culture all face the square; the guide walks you through what each one represents in the city's layered past.
From there the route moves through Toptani, past King Zog's old castle and the prince's residence, then onto the Main Boulevard—a long stretch where you pass the Pyramid, the Dictator Hoxha's Museum, the Prime Ministry, Presidency, Parliament Offices, University, Academy of Arts, and the National Stadium. The guide talks through what each landmark meant during different eras, how the street itself changed shape, and what it looks like now.
The tour ends in ex-Blloku, the residential quarter that was completely sealed off during Communist rule—ordinary citizens could not enter.
