The experience
The itinerary opens with airport pickup and a 3:30 p.m. sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, where you watch birds and wildlife arrive at the water's edge as the sun drops. Finger foods and an open bar wrap the evening. You stay at Shongwe Lookout Lodge or Pioneers Lodge in Victoria Falls.
Day two is a full-day guided tour of Victoria Falls from both sides of the border. An 8:30 a.m. pickup takes you to the Zimbabwean and Zambian viewpoints, where you get close enough to feel the mist from the cascades. At 4:00 p.m., you transfer to Nakavango Private Game Reserve for an afternoon game drive with refreshments as the sun sets, then a spotlight drive to hunt nocturnal wildlife. A 3-course barbecue dinner under the African sky closes the day.
Day three moves you to Chobe National Park in Botswana. A 7:30 a.m. pickup takes you to the Kazungula border, where a Botswana guide meets you. The morning is spent on a game-viewing cruise along the Chobe River with tea and biscuits. The cruise ends around 12:30 p.m. After lunch at a riverbank hotel, an afternoon game drive through the park gives you chances to see elephants, antelopes, buffalos and impalas. The order of morning cruise and afternoon drive may swap depending on recent wildlife sightings. You check into Tlou Safari Lodge.
Day four starts at 5:30 a.m. with a 3-hour morning game drive timed to catch predators still hunting, followed by breakfast at the lodge. At 10:30 a.m., you're picked up for a 3-hour visit to Impalila Island in Namibia, where you walk through a local village positioned at the point where four countries converge. The final day is a transfer to Kasane Airport or back to Victoria Falls Airport for your onward flight. Small groups max out at eight per safari vehicle, though many departures run smaller. English-speaking professional guides lead all activities, with local specialists in each country. Comfortable air-conditioned vehicles handle all transfers and border crossings.
