The experience
The first day centers on Victoria Falls itself. You walk the rainforest trails with a local guide in early morning light, when the mist and cliffs catch the rising sun and the trails are quieter: ideal for photographs and for seeing the falls from multiple angles. After exploring the site at your own pace through the afternoon, you board a Zambezi River sunset cruise where hippos, crocodiles, elephants and other wildlife gather along the banks as the African sky shifts colour.
Day two takes you across the border into Botswana and Chobe National Park, known for its large elephant herds. A 3-hour 4x4 game drive with an experienced safari guide covers the park's terrain in search of elephants, buffalo, lions, giraffes, zebras and antelope. Lunch breaks the day before you shift to water: a 3-hour boat safari on the Chobe River offers a different vantage on the same wildlife, as animals come to the riverbanks to drink and cool off. The return journey to Victoria Falls ends at your hotel around 6pm.
An air-conditioned vehicle carries you throughout, and pickup from your accommodation is included. The itinerary suits all fitness levels, though the game drive and boat safari involve sitting for extended periods in open or semi-open vehicles.
