The experience
The day starts at 7am with pickup from Victoria Falls. You'll need your passport and should eat breakfast before leaving. The drive takes about an hour through Zambezi National Park to reach Kazungula, the border crossing between Zimbabwe and Botswana. After border formalities on both sides, a Botswana guide takes over and drives you to the starting point for the two safaris.
The boat safari and the 4WD game drive are scheduled back-to-back, with lunch between them from 12:30 to 1:30pm. Animals in Chobe concentrate along the river, so both the water route and the land route put you in front of them in a short space of time: aquatic species from the boat, land animals from the vehicle. The order of the two safaris can vary depending on the day's conditions and wildlife movement.
After the second safari, your guide drives you back to the border for exit formalities. The Zimbabwe guide meets you on the other side and drives you back to Victoria Falls, arriving by 6pm. The full day is about 11 hours from pickup to drop-off.
