The experience
The jeep picks you up from your Sapa hotel or the meeting point at Sapa Church at 8:30 am. The route starts by passing through O Quy Ho village, where you stop to see green tea farms, vegetable plots and flower fields worked by local people. From there the jeep climbs to Thac Bac waterfall, where a short hike leads to panoramic views of the valley. The next major stop is Tram Ton Pass, the highest point in Vietnam at 2,200 meters above sea level, where the landscape opens into a vast view of the valley and the famous snake road.
By midday the jeep reaches Ban Khoang and Ta Giang Phinh village, where few tourists venture. You visit Hmong and Red Dao families in their homes, then eat lunch cooked by a Red Dao family in their kitchen. In the afternoon, the route passes through Phin Ho village and climbs to a panorama viewpoint overlooking Ta Phin village and the surrounding peaks. You arrive at your homestay in Ta Phin village in the evening, where you stay with a Red Dao family. That night the host teaches a cooking class, and dinner is shared with the family over rice wine and beer.
Day two starts after breakfast with a drive up the mountains to Hang Da and Sau Chua villages, passing through deep valleys of terraced rice fields. The jeep climbs to a mountain peak with views over the hidden villages of Hmong and Dao minorities living below. Then it descends into Muong Hoa Valley to visit four more villages (Lao Chai, Ta Van, Giang Ta Chai and Su Pan), where you meet Tay, Dao and Day ethnic minorities. Lunch is at one of the villages. The return to Sapa follows small roads through the paddies, where you watch farmers at work and may see buffalo or chickens crossing the road ahead of the jeep.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want to travel in a small open-air group with a driver and guide, not on foot or by motorbike. The jeep's speed and the backroad route mean you cover more ground and reach remote villages in a single day that would take much longer to hike to, and the overnight homestay lets you stay in a village rather than returning to Sapa each night.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (8 to 11 years); Child (5 to 7 years); Infant (1 to 4 years): free.
What is Muong Hoa Valley like, and how much time do you spend there?
Muong Hoa Valley is a landscape of steep terraced rice fields in the mountains around Sapa, home to several ethnic minority villages. On day two, the jeep takes you to visit around four villages in the valley (Lao Chai, Ta Van, Giang Ta Chai and Su Pan), where you spend several hours meeting local families and having lunch before the drive back to Sapa.
Do you stay in a hotel or somewhere else overnight?
You stay overnight at a traditional Red Dao family homestay in Ta Phin village, not a hotel. It is a genuine family home where you sleep, eat dinner and breakfast with the family, and take part in a cooking class in the evening.
What villages does the jeep visit, and are they tourist spots?
The tour visits Ban Khoang, Ta Giang Phinh, Ta Phin, Hang Da, Sau Chua, Lao Chai, Ta Van, Giang Ta Chai and Su Pan. Most are not tourist destinations. The operator notes that few visitors know about them and you will see real local culture rather than tourist services.
What is Tram Ton Pass, and why stop there?
Tram Ton Pass, also called Heaven Gate, is the highest point in Vietnam at 2,200 meters above sea level. The stop gives you an overview of Sapa and the surrounding valley landscape, and on clear days the view stretches across a vast, deep valley.
What meals are included, and who prepares them?
The tour includes two lunches, one dinner and one breakfast. Lunch on day one and lunch on day two are cooked by local families in their villages. Dinner on day one is prepared by your Red Dao host family at the homestay, where you eat together.
