Roast beans, brew two blends, taste the craft

A two-and-a-half-hour coffee workshop in Hồ Chí Minh City where you brew and taste two Lacàph coffee blends, witness small-batch roasting of the Phin Blend, and learn Vietnam's coffee culture through an in-house documentary series. The class includes snacks and treats paired with each coffee; minimum age is 15, and it's led by a live guide in English.

The Experience

Two and a half hours means you move through the whole arc: a multi-sensory warm-up, then hands-on brewing of the Filter Blend paired with Bánh Đậu Xanh (mung bean cake), then the roasting demo where you hear the beans crack and smell the Phin Blend as it develops. The guide walks you through each step, and you taste what you brew. Between the coffee itself, the Vietnamese sweets, and the cocoa-coated cashews that come with the Phin coffee, the workshop is built around flavor—not just watching someone else work.

The roasting segment is the centerpiece: you witness the small-batch process live, feel the heat, listen for the cracks that signal the beans are ready. It's not a lecture about roasting; it's the thing happening in front of you. After that comes the Phin Coffee experience using the Lacàph Microfilter Phin Brewer, which is how Vietnamese coffee has been brewed for generations, though this version is a modern take on the tradition.

The cultural layer runs through the whole workshop. An in-house mini-documentary takes you from Hà Nội's streets to Đà Lạt's landscapes and the Chợ Lớn market in Sài Gòn, so you understand where these beans come from and why they matter to Vietnam. The guide is live and speaks English, so you can ask questions as you go. Public transportation is nearby if you're coming from elsewhere in the city.

What’s included

  • Two Lacàph coffee blends you brew yourself.
  • small-batch roasting demo of the Phin Blend.
  • Vietnamese snacks including mung bean cake and cocoa-coated cashews.
  • in-house mini-documentary exploring coffee regions from Hà Nội to Đà Lạt and Chợ Lớn.
  • live English-speaking guide throughout.

Is this one for you? This is a hands-on class, not a tour—you brew and taste the coffee yourself rather than watching a demonstration. It suits anyone curious about how Vietnamese coffee is made and wants to understand the culture behind it in a single afternoon, and it works for groups or solo travelers since the guide leads everyone through the same workshop together.

Top questions

What exactly do I brew during the workshop?

You brew two Lacàph coffee blends: the Filter Blend, which you taste with Bánh Đậu Xanh (a sweet mung bean cake), and the Phin Blend using the traditional Lacàph Microfilter Phin Brewer, paired with cocoa-coated cashews.

Do I get to roast the coffee beans myself?

The workshop includes a small-batch roasting demo where you watch and experience the process—you'll hear the beans crack and smell the roast develop—but the guide leads the roasting itself so you can focus on the sensory details.

How long is the whole workshop?

The workshop runs two and a half hours from start to finish, moving through brewing, roasting, tasting, and the cultural documentary about Vietnam's coffee regions.

What's included in the price?

The workshop includes both coffees you brew, all the snacks and treats (mung bean cake, cocoa-coated cashews), and the in-house documentary series about Vietnam's coffee culture; you just need to bring yourself.

Is there an age requirement?

The minimum age is 15; the workshop is not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with poor cardiovascular health due to the sensory intensity and standing involved.
