The experience
The vintage open-air Jeep is what sets this tour apart: you sit exposed to the landscape as you climb winding mountain roads, pass through Bac Sum and Tham Ma passes, and stop at the Twin Mountains near Tam Son. The route itself is the draw. You're not sightseeing from a distance but riding through it, with the guide pointing out the textile cooperative where Hmong women weave, the ancient stone houses in Dong Van's quarter, and the remote villages scattered across the valleys. The Jeep holds up to eight people, so the group stays small and the stops feel unhurried.
Day two takes you to Hmong King's Palace and Lung Cu, Vietnam's northernmost point, where you can stand and look into China. Day three is the most dramatic: Ma Pi Leng Pass is one of Vietnam's most iconic mountain roads, and from there you descend into Tu San Canyon for a boat trip through one of Southeast Asia's deepest gorges. A local market stop (on certain days) and a swim at a waterfall near Du Gia Village break up the driving. The final day loops back through Duong Thuong Valley and Thai An Road, passing rice terraces and remote settlements before returning to Ha Giang City.
Accommodation is arranged each night (homestays with pools in Yen Minh and Du Gia, and a hotel in Dong Van), so you're not managing bookings. Meals are included throughout, and your English-speaking guide is local, which means the stories about the Hmong royal family and the ethnic groups you meet come with real context. Travel insurance and all entrance fees are covered. You bring only personal expenses and drinks if you want them beyond what's provided.
Is this one for you?Four days is enough to complete the full Ha Giang Loop and stay overnight in three different places (Yen Minh, Dong Van and Du Gia), so you experience the region's geography and ethnic villages without rushing. The fixed itinerary means you're not choosing between stops. The guide handles the route and timing, and you move through each day's drive and boat trip as a group.
