Red Rock Slot Canyon tour near Zion: Hike without climbing
Ride a custom UTV through remote red cliffs before easy hikes begin
A guided slot canyon tour near Zion National Park that combines a UTV ride to the trailhead with hiking through two separate canyons with towering red walls. The route is designed for groups that want the narrow-canyon experience without climbing or technical scrambling. A live guide shares Native American history and geological details as you walk. Children from age 2 are welcome.
The Experience
The day starts with a customized UTV ride that takes you off paved roads to the mouth of the first slot canyon. Once there, you hike on foot into the canyon itself—red walls stretch over 100 feet high on either side, with only 6 to 10 feet of space between them. Your guide leads you through, pointing out the geological formations and stories of the Native Americans who lived in this landscape. If the canyon gets too difficult or narrow for the group, you hike back to the UTV and travel to a second slot canyon to explore its lower section instead.
The whole experience runs about two hours. This tour is built specifically for families with young children and for travelers who want the slot canyon experience without climbing over rocks or scrambling up steep sections. In fall and winter, bring warm layers—hats, gloves and a coat—since the canyon stays cool and shaded.
What’s included
- Customized UTV transportation to and between the canyons.

What are the slot canyons like to walk through?
The red canyon walls tower over 100 feet high on either side with a narrow gap of only 6 to 10 feet between them. You walk on foot through the canyon floor while your guide explains the geological formations and Native American history of the area.
How do I get to the slot canyons?
A customized UTV transports you from the starting point on a thrilling ride to the mouth of the first canyon, traveling on roads far from pavement. The UTV also takes you between the two canyons if the group needs to switch locations during the hike.
Is this tour suitable for young children?
Yes—children are welcome from age 2. The tour is designed for families and does not involve climbing or scrambling, so it works well for little ones who can walk short distances on relatively flat canyon floors.
What should I bring for fall and winter visits?
Bring hats, gloves and a warm coat. The canyon stays shaded and cool, and temperatures drop in the colder months, so layering is important even if the weather outside feels mild.
What happens if the canyon becomes too difficult?
If the group finds the first canyon too narrow or challenging, you hike back to the UTV and travel to a separate slot canyon where you explore the bottom section instead, which is more accessible.
