The experience

The van picks you up at your downtown Portland hotel and heads first to Pioneer Courthouse Square, the single most visited site in the city, where 26,000 people pass through each day. The square sits in the heart of downtown and hosts more than 300 events annually. You'll see the granite waterfall fountain and the sixteen columns topped with carved yellow roses. From there, the route moves to the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park (home to more than 10,000 roses across 650+ varieties), where you can walk among the blooms from May through October, or see the garden's structure in other seasons. The Pearl District comes next, a former warehouse area now filled with art galleries, restaurants, and converted lofts that line the cobblestone streets. You'll also stop at NW 23rd Avenue (the Alphabet District), where Victorian and Craftsman-style storefronts house boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. It's the best shopping area in Portland. Powell's City of Books, the world's largest used and new bookstore, occupies an entire city block with roughly one million books across nine color-coded rooms and over 3,500 sections. The South Park Blocks, a twelve-block greenspace stretching north from Portland State University, hosts community events and serves as the cultural district's front yard. You'll also pass the riverside park (more than 36 acres of strollable, bikeable public space with historical monuments), and see Providence Park Stadium, home to the Portland Thorns and Portland Timbers.
