From there, the van carries you to Pittock Mansion, a restored historic house and museum set on a hill with expansive gardens and a view of the city that justifies the stop. You explore the exterior grounds and gardens (the interior stays off-limits to keep the tour on schedule), then drive through the Alphabet District (the trendy NW 23rd Avenue neighborhood) and the Pearl District, where the guide points out Powell's Books, the world's largest independently owned new and used bookstore. A pass by Pioneer Courthouse Square, known locally as Portland's Living Room, rounds out the downtown portion.

The final stop is the South Waterfront, where you board the Portland Aerial Tram. The three-minute ride climbs 500 feet vertically over a horizontal distance of 3,300 feet, carrying you from the waterfront district to the top of Marquam Hill. On a clear day, the view opens onto downtown Portland and the volcanic Cascade Mountains, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams all visible from the top. The van returns you to Director Park to close out the tour.
