You start on land with 20–25 minutes of safety and technique instruction, then spend the rest of the time in the water catching waves with hands-on coaching from your guide. The instructor stays close throughout, offering wave-pushing and in-water support tailored to your pace and skill level.

The experience

The lesson opens on the beach with your instructor covering the fundamentals: safety protocols, paddling technique, how to pop up on the board, and what to look for when a wave is coming. This land session runs 20–25 minutes and gives you the foundation before the ocean. Then you're in the water for the remainder of the 2 hours, where the real learning happens: your instructor positions you, pushes waves your way, and coaches you through the motion of catching and riding them.

Because it's just the two of you with one guide, the attention is split between partners rather than divided across a group. Your instructor reads both of your skill levels and adjusts the pace so neither person gets left behind or held back. If one of you is a first-timer and the other has surfed before, the lesson bends to meet you both where you are. The rashguard, water shoes and board are all provided, so you show up ready to go.

Children ages 5–9 need a private 1:1 lesson instead of the two-person format for safety reasons. Guides speak English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, so you can request the language that works best for you at checkout.
