The Experience

The moment you step into Ski Dubai inside Dubai Mall of the Emirates, the temperature drops and you're standing on real snow in the middle of the desert. It's the world's third-largest indoor ski slope, and the first one ever built in the Middle East — which means the whole setup still feels a bit surreal. You've got 6,000 tons of snow to work with, a chairlift and a t-bar to get you up the mountain, and five hours to do whatever you want with it. Whether you're learning to carve or you've skied before and want to hit the freestyle zone with its jumps and ramps, the qualified instructors are there if you need them.

The gear comes with your ticket — jacket, trousers, snow boots, disposable socks, and free fleece gloves — so you don't show up in jeans and regret it. One chairlift ride and one ride on the Mountain Thriller (a bobsled-style run) are included, and after that the slope is yours for the full five hours. The penguin encounter is the part that catches people off guard. Ski Dubai keeps a colony of Gentoo and King Penguins, and you get an up-close, interactive experience with them — not just looking through glass. They do a March of the Penguins show several times a day, and it's free for anyone with a snow park ticket.
