Hotel pickup included, live shows, 6-7 hours.★ 4.91 (3,947)6hUS$ 23View › We’d barely left Dubai before the city haze faded into sharp desert light. Our driver, Ahmed, kept up a steady stream of stories about the mountains we passed—he swore one peak looked like a camel’s back but honestly, I couldn’t see it. The road curled along the coast and suddenly everything smelled faintly salty, like sea air mixed with something green. By the time we reached Fujairah, I was half-asleep and totally ready for the water.
The boat felt bigger than I expected—clean deck, cold water bottles everywhere, even a bowl of fruit (I grabbed two slices of watermelon before anyone else noticed). Our guide, Li, handed out masks and fins. She checked mine twice after I fumbled with the strap. There was this quick hush when we first slid into the sea—just bubbles and that weird feeling of your heartbeat in your ears. Then Li pointed down and there it was: a turtle just gliding by like we weren’t even there. I tried to follow but mostly just floated above coral that looked almost fake, so bright under the sun slicing through the water.
I’m not sure how long we stayed out—time gets weird when you’re watching fish flicker past—but nobody rushed us. Someone on board started laughing about their foggy mask and it turned into everyone swapping stories about failed snorkel attempts elsewhere. On the way back to land my skin felt tight from salt and sun (should’ve put on more sunscreen), but I didn’t care much.
The drive home wasn’t just straight back either. We stopped at Khorfakkan Waterfall where kids were shrieking in Arabic and splashing each other—the mist felt good after all that sun. Quick photo at the amphitheatre too; honestly I didn’t expect to care but it’s pretty wild seeing something so old-school next to all that rock. Still think about that turtle sometimes—how calm it looked compared to me flapping around up top.
