You'll walk the Hippodrome where Byzantine chariots raced, enter the six-minaret Blue Mosque and see the German Fountain up close, then decide whether to pay extra for Hagia Sophia's interior. Lunch and transport in an air-conditioned vehicle are included; the guide handles timing and logistics so you move between five major sites without arranging tickets or navigation yourself.
Is this one for you?Book this if you want Istanbul's major Byzantine and Ottoman sites in one day without arranging your own tickets, transport, or timing between stops—the fixed itinerary and included lunch mean you move through five significant museums and monuments without the logistics eating into your time.
The Hippodrome of Constantinople sits quiet now, but stand where the chariot races thundered and you can almost hear the roar. This is where your day starts—in Sultanahmet Square, walking the same ground where Byzantine crowds once packed the stands. Your guide will point out what's left of the original structure, fragments that survived centuries of conquest and rebuilding. It's a good place to get your bearings before the tour moves into the heavier sites, and it sets the rhythm: you're not just visiting buildings, you're standing in layers of history.
From there, the Blue Mosque rises with its six minarets—the only mosque in Istanbul with that many, which alone makes it worth the stop. The German Fountain sits nearby, a smaller, ornate structure that Kaiser Wilhelm II left behind in 1898 as a gift, and your guide will tell you the story of that visit and what it meant for Ottoman-German relations at the time. Then comes Hagia Sophia, the massive domed building that started as a Byzantine cathedral in 537 AD and shifted hands and purposes more than once. Entry here costs 25 euros per person and isn't included in the tour price, so you can decide on the spot whether to go in or wait outside. After that, the Grand Bazaar—one of the world's oldest covered markets, with over 4,000 shops spread across 61 streets. Your guide will give you a demonstration of Turkish handicrafts, and you'll have time to walk through if you want to pick something up.
Topkapi Palace is the heavyweight of the day. This was the main residence and headquarters of the Ottoman sultans starting in the 15th century, and the museum inside holds four courtyards, the Audience Hall, the Divan (the high court), the Historical Kitchens, Royal Stables, the Treasury, gardens and kiosks. It's genuinely one of the most important museums in Turkey and the Balkans, and you could spend hours here. Hagia Irene, a rare church that wasn't converted into a mosque, sits in the outer courtyard and now operates as a museum and concert hall. Your lunch is included in the tour, and you'll return in the late afternoon.
