The experience
The tour starts with a 60-minute drive from Hua Hin to Phetchaburi, where you stop first to make merit at a local temple before the walk begins. From there, you move through the Rim Naam Morning Market in the old town, tasting food as you navigate the stalls. This is where Phetchaburi's food culture lives, and the market is where locals still shop. The guide walks you through what makes each dish work: the balance of salt, sweetness and sourness that runs through everything cooked here.
After the market, you head into the back streets by van to seek out street food vendors and noodle stalls, then stop for palm sugar ice cream, a specialty unique to the area. The van then takes you 30 minutes inland to a palm sugar plantation, where you learn how the famous product is made: watching how toddy palms are harvested and tasted some of the products made from them. Lunch follows at a local restaurant serving Thai food specific to this region, not tourist versions of it.
The full day runs eight hours including both drives. You'll need to be comfortable with walking through a market and streets, and the tour is not suitable for vegetarians, vegans, those with gluten intolerance or nut allergies, though you can advise dietary needs at booking and some dishes can be adjusted. Minimum age is 12.

Is this one for you?The day involves walking through a market and old town streets, so comfortable shoes matter. The pace is set by the guide and the stops, not by you. If you want to taste your way through a region's food culture rather than eat at a set table, this tour builds the whole day around that.
