Cook five Thai dishes in a 100-year-old teak house, starting at the market

This four-hour cooking class in Hua Hin teaches you to prepare five authentic Thai dishes (red curry paste, red curry with pork, papaya salad, chicken with cashew nuts, and mango sticky rice) in a traditional teak house kitchen. The day begins with a visit to Talad Chat Chai, Hua Hin's 100-year-old fresh food market, where you shop for ingredients with your instructors. You then return to the teak house to cook and eat lunch together. Pickup and drop-off within Hua Hin town are included, as are a recipe booklet, certificate of completion, bottled water, snacks, coffee and tea.

The experience

The cooking school is set up inside a traditional Thai teak house with multiple relaxation areas, Asian antiques and a koi pond. You start by visiting Talad Chat Chai, the famous seaside market that has supplied Hua Hin for a century, where you'll shop alongside your instructors and select the fresh produce and pastes you'll use that morning. Back at the teak house, you make red curry paste from scratch, then prepare four dishes: gaeng ped moo (red curry with pork), som tam (papaya salad), gai pad med mamuang (chicken with cashew nuts), and khao niaow ma muang (mango with sticky rice).

Your instructors guide you through each step in English, and you cook in the teak house kitchen itself rather than watching a demonstration. The class runs four hours total, with lunch built in so you eat what you've made. You leave with a recipe booklet and a certificate of completion, plus the ingredients knowledge to recreate these dishes at home.
