Paddle inside caves that open onto lagoons no boat can reach.

Kayaking in Phang Nga Bay National Marine Park is a full-day paddle through limestone islands, sea caves and mangrove lagoons with a local guide approved by Thailand's Tourism Authority. You kayak in a two-person canoe while the guide paddles from the stern, exploring Panak Island's 20–150 meter caves, then visit James Bond Island and Hong Island's rock formations. Hotel pickup, lunch buffet with Thai options, snacks and drinks are included; the guide speaks English or German.

The Experience

The day starts with hotel pickup between 9 and 10:30 am, then a drive to Ao Por pier where you board an inflatable canoe. The guide sits in the back and does the paddling while you and one other guest sit in front — this setup lets you focus on the landscape instead of fighting the current. By 11:40 you're at a beach stop with time to paddle on your own or swim, with drinking water and snacks waiting on board.

At Phang Nga Bay, the route takes you into Panak Island's sea caves, some stretching 20 to 150 meters into the rock with the guide navigating you through the darkness to show the limestone formations and the lagoons hidden behind them. These are the islands you see from a distance on regular boat tours — here you're inside them. Lunch is a Thai buffet served on board around 1:30 pm, followed by a stop at James Bond Island, then Hong Island, where a circle of rocks surrounds a lagoon and a light BBQ is served on the return to the pier. The tides shift the exact timing each day, so the sequence can change slightly, but the pier arrival is around 6:30 pm with transfer back to your hotel.

The guide is a local approved by Thailand's Tourism Authority and stays with the group the whole time. Kayak, water-proof bag and all paddling gear are provided. Transfers from Phuket and Khaolak hotels are free from October through April; from May through September, free transfers run from Khaolak on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with private transfer available on Wednesday and Friday for an extra cost.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want to paddle inside the caves and lagoons instead of watching them from a boat — the guide's paddling from the stern means you stay focused on the landscape and the formations, not the mechanics of staying afloat.

Top questions

What are the caves at Panak Island actually like inside?

Panak Island's sea caves are long and dark, stretching 20 to 150 meters into the limestone with the guide paddling you through to show the rock formations and the hidden lagoons at the back — they're the reason kayaking reaches places a regular tour boat cannot.

Do I have to paddle the kayak myself or does the guide do it?

The guide sits in the back and does the paddling while you and one other guest sit in front, so you can watch the islands and take photos without fighting the current; there's a beach stop where you can paddle on your own if you want to.

What time does the day end and how do I get back to my hotel?

The boat returns to Ao Por pier around 6:30 pm, and your hotel transfer is included in the price — the driver meets you at the pier and takes you back.

Is lunch included and what kind of food is served?

Lunch is a Thai buffet served on board around 1:30 pm with a variety of options and fresh fruit, plus snacks, drinking water, coffee and tea throughout the day; a light BBQ is also served on the return trip.

What's the difference between James Bond Island and Hong Island?

James Bond Island is the single famous limestone rock you've seen in films; Hong Island is a circle of rocks surrounding a lagoon where you can paddle closer to the formations and explore the rock shapes from the water.

Can small children or infants come on this kayak trip?

Infants and small children can come — infants ride in a pram or stroller during the hotel pickup and pier time, then sit on an adult's lap in the canoe during paddling, and the trip is suitable for all fitness levels.
