The experience

The day starts with pickup from your Phuket hotel or airport, then heads to Ao Por Pier where you board the escort boat. After a Thai lunch served on board, you move into the kayaks (custom-made SOTAR sea kayaks with dry bags to keep your gear safe), and paddle toward the first island. The hongs are the draw here: enclosed sea caves and lagoons carved into limestone cliffs that you navigate by paddle, moving slowly enough to take in the rock formations and the water around them. A professional guide leads the way through both Hong Island and Panaka Island, pointing out the geography and timing the paddling so you're not rushing.

Between kayaking sessions, there's time to swim in the bay. The escort boat stays nearby, and the rhythm of the day is built around the water and the islands rather than a fixed schedule of stops. You eat a seafood and vegetarian buffet dinner on the return journey, and the tour wraps up after dark with the Loy Krathong ceremony. You make a small flower raft, place an illuminated lantern inside it, and set it afloat on the bay.
