You get picked up at your Ao Nang hotel and spend the day kayaking through mangrove channels in Ao Thalane, swimming in the freshwater-saltwater junction at Tha Pom National Park, and floating in Sa Kaeo's 200-meter-deep pool surrounded by limestone cliffs. Lunch with views of the Hong Islands is included, and a certified guide handles the route and timing, so you just show up and paddle.
The minivan picks you up at your hotel in Ao Nang and heads straight into the jungle. Within an hour you're at Ao Thalane, stepping out of the air-conditioned van and into the kind of quiet that doesn't exist in town — just water, limestone walls, and the sound of your paddle hitting mangrove roots. Your certified guide helps you into the kayak, and then it's just you, the mangroves, and whatever wildlife decides to show itself: crabs skittering between the roots, monkeys in the canopy, birds you can't name. The kayaking in Ao Thalane isn't about speed or distance; it's about moving slowly enough to notice things.
After an hour or so paddling, you pull ashore and walk into Tha Pom Klong Song Nam National Park, where fresh water from underground springs meets seawater in a river that runs through the jungle. The water is clear enough to see the bottom, and you swim in it — the temperature drops as you move between the two water sources, which sounds strange until you're actually in it. Then you drive deeper into the jungle to Sa Kaeo, which looks like a small, impossibly blue lagoon until your guide tells you it's 200 meters deep and you're standing on the edge of the deepest natural land pool in all of Southeast Asia. You can wade in, but you won't touch bottom. The limestone cliffs rise around it, caves cut into the rock, and the whole thing feels like a place that shouldn't exist on land.
By midday you're at Khaotong Restaurant, which overlooks the Hong Islands and serves lunch while you're still wet from the pool. The food is local — nothing complicated, just what works after a morning in the water. The minivan brings you back to Ao Nang in the afternoon, and you spend the rest of the day trying to explain to people why a pool you can't touch bottom in matters so much.
