What’s included

Your day includes private transportation from your accommodation to the dive shop and back again after your dives. All SCUBA equipment is ready for you on board—no need to bring anything extra. You’ll get snacks and fresh fruit between dives (plus coffee or tea), guidance from a professional instructor or divemaster throughout both morning and afternoon sessions if you choose both—and insurance is covered too.

“You’ll see the batfish at Chumphon if you’re lucky,” our divemaster said, grinning while checking my tank. I think his name was Ton — he’d been diving here since before Instagram was a thing. We met at the shop just after sunrise, still half-awake, sipping sweet Thai coffee that tasted a bit burnt but kind of perfect for 6:30 am. The air smelled salty and warm already. Everyone seemed to know each other or at least acted like it.

The boat ride out from Koh Tao was louder than I expected — engine humming, tanks clanking, someone’s flip-flop slapping the deck every few minutes. I tried to remember all the hand signals Ton showed us on the way (pretty sure I mixed up “turtle” and “okay” at least once). When we dropped in at White Rock, the water felt cooler than the air — almost silky. There was this moment where everything went quiet except for my own bubbles, and a parrotfish darted by so close I could’ve reached out. Didn’t realize how much I missed that feeling until right then.

Between dives, there were cut mangoes and little bags of sticky rice passed around. One of the German guys tried to teach me how to say “Sattakut” properly — Li laughed when I butchered it in Mandarin instead. The afternoon trip had different faces but somehow the same vibe; everyone sunburned and happy to talk about their favorite site (Sail Rock won by a landslide). By the end of four dives, my hair was stiff with salt and I’d forgotten what day it was. In a good way.
