PADI Discover Scuba Diving in Koh Tao is a half-day activity for beginners with no experience, running 6 hours from 10:30 a.m. to around 6 p.m. You make two dives around Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan islands under direct supervision of a PADI Dive Instructor, descending to a maximum of 12 meters. The activity includes all rental equipment, a professional guide, tea, coffee, fruits and snacks on the boat between dives.
The Experience
You arrive at the dive center at 10:30 a.m., where the team handles paperwork and walks you through the rules of diving on Koh Tao. After gearing up, you board the Scuba Birds and get a full briefing on breathing, boat safety and what to expect. The boat takes you to Japanese Garden in Koh Nang Yuan or Mango Bay—shallow water where you'll take your first breath underwater with the instructor right there. Once you're comfortable, the real dive begins. Dive time runs 40 to 50 minutes, and you stay at a maximum depth of 12 meters, seeing coral reefs and the tropical sea life around the islands.
Back on the boat, there's an hour between dives. You rest on the sundeck, drink coffee or tea, and eat the fruits and snacks provided. The second dive follows the same structure—another 40 to 50 minutes at depth, same maximum of 12 meters. By around 6 p.m., you're back at Koh Tao, and the instructor congratulates you on completing your first scuba experience. Underwater photos and video are available on request but cost extra; the meal itself is not included, though the boat supplies refreshments throughout the day.
