The Experience

You board the private dive boat on your first morning in Koh Tao, and the instructor walks you through the theory you've already started online—buoyancy, pressure, how to clear your mask underwater. It's not abstract anymore; in a few hours you'll be doing it. The morning session covers what you need to know, then after lunch you're in the water at two shallow dive sites near the beach, practicing the basics with the instructor right there, watching your bubbles rise for the first time.
