The experience
The tour starts at the Ismoil Somoni complex in Dusti Square, where an 11.5-metre monument honors the founder of the Tajik nation. From there you move to the National Library, a nine-storey building opened in 2012 with 15 reading halls and over 20 departments dedicated to preserving Tajikistan's cultural heritage. The State Flag Square comes next: home to the world's tallest flagpole at 165 metres, a Guinness World Record holder that spans 1,800 square metres.
The National Museum occupies 15,000 square metres across 22 exhibition halls, tracing everything from nature and antiquity through the Middle Ages to modern history and applied arts. After lunch (arranged separately), you visit Navruz Palace, a new building with 12 halls each decorated in a distinct national style, featuring wood carvings, semi-precious stone mosaics and painted ceilings. The palace can hold up to 3,200 guests and hosts major political events and international meetings.
The route also includes Eram Park, a 40-hectare garden in the north with a glass greenhouse at its heart, and the Istiqlol Independence Monument and Square, inaugurated in 2022 to mark 31 years of statehood. The 121-metre complex sits on an octagonal pyramid base with seven entrances. If time allows, the tour ends at Mehrgan Bazar, a modern market opened in 2014 covering 30,000 square metres across three floors, with fresh produce on the ground level and clothing, cafes and services on the upper floors.
