What’s included

Your day includes hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere in central Taipei, travel by private Wi-Fi-equipped sedan or van (depending on group size), liability insurance throughout the journey, plus help from an English-speaking driver-guide who’ll shape every stop around what you want to see or do before returning you comfortably at day’s end.

We slid into the sedan right outside our hotel in Taipei, still rubbing sleep from our eyes — I’d barely finished my coffee. Our guide, Mr. Lin, just grinned and asked what we felt like seeing. I had a list on my phone (half in English, half in pinyin), but somehow we ended up talking about breakfast first. He suggested doujiang and youtiao at a little shop near Daan Park. The soy milk was warm and a bit sweet; the fried dough stick was crisp but soft inside. I still think about that taste.

After that, the city just sort of unfolded for us. We zipped through traffic (Mr. Lin’s playlist was mostly old Teresa Teng songs), stopping wherever something caught our eye — Longshan Temple’s incense haze, a quick walk through Huashan 1914 Creative Park where some students were sketching in the sun. At one point I tried to order bubble tea in Mandarin and absolutely butchered it; Mr. Lin laughed so hard he almost missed the light turning green. He told us stories about growing up here, how Ximending used to be all movie theaters.

I liked that nothing felt rushed — if we wanted to linger at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall or poke around little side streets for pineapple cake, it was fine. The Wi-Fi in the car actually worked (which is more than I can say for some hotels), so we messaged friends back home between stops. By late afternoon it started drizzling — not heavy rain, just enough to make the city lights blur a bit as we drove past Taipei 101 on the way back.
