The day starts at your hotel, airport or port, and from there the itinerary is yours to shape. If you're visiting Taipei for the first time and want the landmarks, the guide can walk you through the classics: Longshan Temple, built in 1738, where you'll learn about Taiwanese religion and architecture; the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a sprawling national park complex where the guard-changing ceremony draws crowds but the interior architecture rewards a closer look; Dihua Street, a commercial hub since the 1850s lined with Chinese medicinal herbs, fabrics and tea; and the National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine with its own changing-of-the-guard ritual. If you'd rather skip the historical sites, you can spend the day on Taipei 101 and Elephant Mountain instead. The latter is a 40-minute climb (roughly 25 minutes up, 15 down) that opens onto panoramic views of the city skyline, or you can ask your guide for a café stop and local snacks instead.

The National Palace Museum holds over 600,000 artifacts moved from Beijing during the Chinese Civil War, though admission is optional and the museum closes Mondays. Taipei 101, once the world's tallest building, offers free views from outside or paid access to the observatories on the 89th floor. Beyond the city, your guide can take you to Yehliu Geopark, Shifen Waterfall or Jiufen Old Street if you want to venture into the outskirts.
