The experience

The tour starts in Lucerne's Old Town and moves through four centuries of architecture and stories. Your guide leads you inside the Jesuit Church, where ornate Baroque interiors and frescoed ceilings fill the space, then walks you across the Chapel Bridge (a 14th-century covered wooden structure lined with historic paintings) to the Spreuer Bridge, where the "Dance of Death" paintings tell older stories still. The cobblestone streets between them wind past colorful frescoed buildings and hidden courtyards. The guide shares the history woven into each one.

After the walking portion, you board a boat on Lake Lucerne for a 1-hour cruise. The mountains and lakeside scenery unfold as you float. This is the part of the day when the pace stops and the views take over. The boat returns you to where you started.
