St. Lucia cruise tour: 5 hours, five island highlights
Castries market tour: waterfall, geothermal springs & stunning Caribbean bay in one afternoon
A five- to six-hour guided tour of St. Lucia departing from the cruise port in Castries takes you through the island's main sights: the colonial architecture of Morne Fortune, the sheltered anchorage of Marigot Bay, the geothermal Sulphur Springs Park, Toraille Waterfall and Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens. Port pickup and drop-off are included, along with a driver-guide, light refreshments and bottled water; you'll need cash for lunch and entrance fees at each site.

The Experience
The tour runs five to six hours and starts at the Castries market and Derek Walcott Square, moving through the Cathedral—the largest church in the Caribbean at 200 feet long—and the Government House, one of St. Lucia's most important historical buildings. Morne Fortune, which translates to Hill of Good Luck, sits on the site of brutal French and British battles and offers views across the island from its hilltop perch.
From there you head south to Marigot Bay, a hurricane hole sheltered by steep hillsides around a small, deep harbour. The bay was featured in the 1967 film Dr. Doolittle and has been called "the most beautiful in the Caribbean" by travel writer James Michener. The route then takes you to Sulphur Springs Park, the most active geothermal area in the Lesser Antilles, named for the sulfur once mined at the site.
Toraille Waterfall, one of the largest in the area, drops about 50 feet into a pool where you can swim. The waterfall is easy to reach without a challenging hike, and many visitors report the water streaming down feels like a massage. If time allows, the tour finishes at Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, a six-acre site with tropical flowers, hot mineral springs that fill historical baths, and a waterfall set into lush vegetation.
Your driver-guide speaks English and waits 15 minutes after the scheduled pickup time; arriving late means you're marked a no-show. Bring a towel, wear weather-appropriate clothing—the tour runs in all conditions—and carry extra cash for lunch and entrance fees at each stop, as these aren't covered by the tour price.
