The Experience

The minivan picks you up from your hotel, cruise port or residence and heads into Basseterre, the capital, where the guide points out the oldest colonial buildings—Berkeley Memorial, Independence Square, the Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. George's Anglican Church, and the National Museum. From there you drive to Bloody Point, a headland where 2,000 Kalinago people were massacred by European colonists in the 1600s, then continue to Caribelle Batik at Romney Manor, a historic shop in the rainforest selling handmade tie-dye fabrics and island souvenirs.

Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park is the centerpiece—a 17th and 18th century military stronghold built to withstand sea attacks and the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Eastern Caribbean. After the fortress, you stop at Black Rock, a volcanic site with photo opportunities and souvenir shops, then climb to Timothy Hill, which overlooks St. George's Parish with a 360-degree view taking in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Frigate Bay, the island of Nevis, and the Peninsula Hills. The guide carries drinks and snacks throughout the day.

At the end of the tour, you choose whether to spend time at a beach. Friar's Beach sits on the southeast peninsula with restaurants and bars; Frigate Bay is a white sand beach where locals gather. If you skip the beach option, the guide returns you directly to your starting point.
