The Experience
The first thing that hit me stepping into the bar at Port Zante was the low hum of chatter and the faint scent of sugarcane syrup in the air. It’s not fancy—just a handful of locals swapping stories over their glasses, reggae playing somewhere in the background. Our guide, Marcus, handed out our first tasting and grinned, “This is where it all starts.” The rum was smooth with a hint of spice—nothing like what you get back home. After that first round, we piled into the van and made our way up to Timothy Hill. The road winds past little roadside fruit stalls—mangoes and soursop stacked high—and you can feel the breeze getting cooler as you climb.
