The experience

You're picked up from your hotel and driven into Yala as the sun rises or in the late afternoon, depending on which session you choose. The morning safari starts before dawn: the window when leopards, elephants, sloth bears and crocodiles move most freely across the grasslands. The cool air and soft light make spotting easier and photography sharper. An evening safari reverses the rhythm: animals emerge from rest as temperatures drop, and you watch the landscape turn gold as they drink at waterholes and hunt in the fading light.

The jeep is a 4x4 built for the terrain, and your guide navigates the park's tracks with the experience to read where animals are likely to be. You'll have binoculars in hand, water at your side, and the guide's eye on the landscape. The park holds one of Asia's highest leopard densities, though sightings are never guaranteed: what you see depends on the day, the season and the animals' own movements. Sloth bears, crocodiles, sambar deer and dozens of bird species are regular. The big cats are the prize.

Breakfast is included on the morning tour. The evening session leaves you back at your hotel by 6:00 PM. Park entrance tickets are not included and must be purchased separately at the gate. Bring a hat, sunscreen and a camera with a good zoom if you have one: the jeep stops when animals appear, but distance and light matter for the shot.
