Step-by-step itinerary
Safari at Bundala National Park
- Pick up from hotel
- Explore Bundala National Park
- Spot wildlife and birds with guide
- Enjoy refreshments during safari
- Drop off at hotel
The experience
The jeep picks you up from your hotel or a convenient location near Tissamaharama or Yala and heads into Bundala, a network of waterways and lagoons where nearly 200 bird species nest and feed. Your guide knows the best spots to find elephants, crocodiles, and the rare marine turtles that come ashore to lay eggs. You'll have binoculars in hand and the jeep stops when wildlife appears: no fixed schedule forcing you past a sighting.
Five hours gives you time to move through different zones of the park without rushing. The golden dunes and shallow lagoons mean you're watching birds and larger animals in their habitat, not confined to a single viewpoint. Water and cool drinks travel with you, and the jeep itself is built for the terrain and the heat of a Sri Lankan morning or afternoon.
Your guide speaks English and has driven this park many times. That experience is what separates a productive safari from hours of searching. The park entrance ticket is not included and you'll buy it at the gate, but everything else (transport, guidance, binoculars, refreshments) travels with the booking.
