Caminito del Rey: Suspended walkway & hanging bridge tour
Walk a suspended pathway high above the gorge, then cross a hanging bridge over the ravine
A five-hour private guided trek from Marbella to Caminito del Rey, Spain's most dramatic mountain walkway, with hotel pickup and entrance included. You hike from the Kiosko restaurant through the Gaitanejos and Gaitanes ravines, traverse the suspended walkway clinging to the cliff face, walk across the hanging bridge, and explore the Hoyo Valley before your driver returns you to your hotel. A guide explains the site's role in Spanish industrial history as you pass the old electric power house and railway infrastructure.

The experience
Five hours covers the full route: pickup from your Costa del Sol hotel, a drive to the Kiosko restaurant near the entrance, and then the trek itself. The guide meets you there (or in Ardales if you're booked from Malaga, Ronda, Estepona or Nerja) and leads you through the two ravines (Gaitanejos first, then Gaitanes), where the path narrows and the rock walls rise on both sides. The suspended walkway is the centerpiece: it's bolted directly into the cliff and hangs above the gorge, giving you an unobstructed view straight down to the canyon floor. You'll wear a helmet for the crossing.
After the main walkway comes the hanging bridge, a final test of nerve before you drop into the Hoyo Valley. The valley itself is a quieter stretch where the geological formations shift: different rock layers, different light, a sense of moving deeper into the mountain. Your guide points out the old infrastructure as you go: the electric power house, the railway line, the reservoir. Remnants of early-20th-century industry that once made this place a working site, not a tourist route. The trek ends at the El Chorro parking area, where your driver is waiting to take you back.
The walkway is weather-dependent. The Caminito del Rey Board can close it for safety reasons. If that happens, the operator will offer an alternative activity nearby, a rescheduled date, or a refund. The site is normally closed Mondays. Children must be at least 8 years old and accompanied by an adult. The path is not wheelchair accessible and walking sticks are not permitted.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and Italian.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. No refund if you cancel.
What exactly is the suspended walkway at Caminito del Rey?
The suspended walkway is a narrow path bolted directly into the cliff face above the Gaitanejos and Gaitanes ravines, hanging roughly 100 meters above the gorge floor. It was originally built in the early 1900s to serve workers at the hydroelectric power station. The modern version, reopened in 2015, follows the same dramatic route.
How difficult is the hike, and what fitness level do I need?
The trek requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The path itself is not technically difficult (you're walking on a fixed route, not climbing), but it is exposed, narrow in places, and the five-hour duration includes elevation change and uneven terrain. The hanging bridge at the end is the most exposed section.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
Hotel pickup and drop-off from the Costa del Sol, the professional guide, entrance to Caminito del Rey, and a helmet are all included. You should bring water, sun protection, and sturdy hiking shoes with good grip. Food and drinks are not included.
Can I do this tour if I'm traveling from Malaga or another nearby town?
Yes. You can book from Marbella, Malaga, Ronda, Estepona, or Nerja. If you're picked up from Malaga, Ronda, Estepona or Nerja, the guide will meet you at the Mirador restaurant in Ardales rather than at your hotel, and you won't have a guide during the drive itself. Bookings from Marbella include a guide throughout the journey.
What happens if the walkway is closed on the day of my tour?
The Caminito del Rey Board closes the walkway during bad weather or for safety reasons. If that occurs, the operator will offer you an alternative activity in the nearby area, the option to reschedule, or a refund. A full refund is available if you cancel up to one day before the tour. A partial refund applies if the board closes the walkway on your tour date.
