The experience

The day starts with pickup at your hotel or cruise port on the Costa del Sol: Malaga, Estepona, Marbella, Nerja, Ronda or Antequera, depending on which option you choose. Your private driver and guide meet you and drive you to Seville while you settle in. Once you arrive, the guide walks you through the Santa Cruz quarter first, pointing out the narrow medieval streets where Sephardi Jews lived and explaining the neighborhood's layered history. This is the quietest part of the day, before the crowds thicken.

Next comes the Royal Alcázar Palace, where you'll see the Moorish architecture and the historic gardens that have stood for centuries. Entry is included. Then you visit the Cathedral and the Giralda Bell Tower: the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Inside, you can see the tomb of Christopher Columbus and the Patio de los Naranjos. The guide explains the Giralda's history as the old minaret of the mosque that stood before the cathedral was built. You pass the Torre del Oro on the way, and the guide tells you why it was built and what it meant to the city over time.

After the guided portion, you have free time to eat lunch at a local restaurant, browse the markets, or just wander. The guide stays available if you have questions. When it's time to leave, your driver takes you back to the Costa del Sol, arriving in the evening. The whole day runs eight to nine hours. The van is air-conditioned, and if your group is larger than fifteen people, you'll get a headset so you can hear the guide clearly over the engine and street noise.
