The experience

The day starts with pickup at your Barcelona hotel and a scenic drive to Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava: about an hour and a half in an air-conditioned van with your guide. Once you reach the water, you'll paddle for two to two and a half hours along the rugged coastline, passing sea cliffs, hidden caves, and coves the guide knows. The kayak route itself is the point: you're not sightseeing from a boat, you're moving through the landscape under your own power, steering into narrow passages and stopping wherever the water and the rock make sense.

After paddling, you'll anchor in one of the secluded bays for snorkeling. The water is clear enough to see the seafloor, and the guide will point out the fish and octopuses that live there. You'll have an hour and a half to two hours in the water, swimming and exploring at your own pace. The snorkeling gear is provided. You bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a towel.

The last part of the day is free time at a seaside village or beach near Lloret de Mar. A sandwich lunch is included, and you can swim again, walk, or simply sit by the water before the drive back to Barcelona. The return trip takes another hour to an hour and a half. Accident insurance and the licensed English-speaking guide are part of the package. The group stays private to your party the entire day, so the pace and the stops are yours to shape.
